CLUB HISTORY

Beginning as the North Adelaide Bears in 1987, the Norwood Bears Volleyball Club has grown to become one of the biggest volleyball clubs in South Australia. The club began entering senior teams into the South Australian State League competition and now enters junior and senior teams into local competitions along with regional, national and international tours. As one of South Australia's volleyball clubs, we feel that it is our responsibility to offer the privileged of being involved in volleyball to anyone who wants it. 

The club currently has a strong junior base offering opportunities all year round in both local and national competition. We offer playing opportunities for both genders from the ages from upper primary school to high school with trainings at Glenunga, Rostrevor, Marryatville, Brighton and Campbelltown. Norwood has been represented at junior tournaments around the country in Albury, Port Augusta, Horsham and Mildura. 

The club prides itself on creating a pathway to elite volleyball through state league volleyball and international exchange. Winning the “Skip Cup” which recognises the most successful on court volleyball club in South Australia in 2012, 2013 and 2014 and having taken part in 3 recent international exchanges to Japan (2008), India (2012) and Myanmar/Thailand (2013). We have given birth to volleyball careers that have continued all over the world and are proud to call two Olympians our own. 

The club also aims to provide an elite pathway to those who wish to pursue coaching or refereeing. We place a high value on our coaches and referees and actively try to develop them at every opportunity. We are proud to have begun the careers of coaches that have been involved at international level, all the way to successful campaigns in the European Champions League. 

The club is constantly looking to offer more volleyball opportunities to members in any capacity that we have available to us. We believe that the success we strive for will be an ongoing journey and we welcome you to join us.
